Man charged with DUII after striking tree

BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On October 18, 2021 at approximately 7:52 a.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a vehicle that hit a tree at the Blue Ridge Apartments on Highway 30 in Baker City. The driver was reportedly slumped over the wheel.

Law enforcement personnel from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker City Police Department and Oregon State Police responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they located a Toyota 4Runner with the front end against a tree and the engine still running. The driver, identified as Laif Edison (23 yoa), was conscious when law enforcement arrived. 

During the investigation, Edison showed signs of alcohol impairment. Edison was taken into custody and charged with DUII. 

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Baker City Police Department, Oregon State Police, Baker Rural Fire Department, and Baker City Fire and Rescue.
