Man charged for hitting officers with stolen truck

YAKIMA – Salvador Munoz-Gonzalez, 43, of Wapato has been formally charged with first-degree assault. Last week he allegedly ran over two Yakima police officers breaking their legs.

Police were investigating reports of a stolen truck when they found the vehicle in a parking lot. Munoz-Gonzalez was allegedly in the driver’s seat. Officers ordered the suspect and his passenger to get out of the vehicle. Instead he is reported to have sped off, striking the side of a patrol vehicle and running over Sgt. Mike Henne and Sgt. Mark Grow.

A high-speed chase ensued. It ended when Munoz-Garcia crashed in the Walmart parking lot. The suspect is also facing stolen motor vehicle and attempt to elude charges for the incident.
