WALLA WALLA, Washington – A young man out of Oregon was arrested for assaulting a police officer. Court documents from Walla Walla County Superior Court revealed that Jerardo Torres, 18, was the man charged with assaulting a Walla Walla police officer during an altercation at Pioneer Park. WWPD reports that officers were responding to a report that someone was pointing a gun at a group of teenagers in the park Saturday night.

Torres has been charged with the assault. Court documents indicate he also faces a charge of obstructing law enforcement because he was allegedly throwing fists and kicking at other officers while they tried to arrest him. Torres and the one officer were both injured in the melee, but the reports are not specific about their injuries. Officers eventually deployed a Taser to take Torres into custody.

Four other people were in the car with Torres, but they did not appear to be involved in the incident and were not charged. A replica gun that folded into a knife was found in the car. Torres’ bail was set at $10,000.
