PENDLETON – Detectives from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man suspected of shooting a Pendleton man earlier in the month. Travis Laib, 35, of Pendleton faces felony charges of first-degree assault, felon in possession of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon as well as the misdemeanor charge of menacing. He was taken into custody Tuesday evening.

UCSO responded to a call from St. Anthony Hospital early in the morning of Jan. 5 about a Pendleton man with a gunshot wound to the arm. The hospital was locked down, as is standard procedure with crimes of that nature.

The victim was taken by Life Flight to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He underwent surgery which resulted in a partial amputation of his right arm.

The sheriff’s office states that Laib was identified by investigators as a person of interest at the time of the initial incident. The active investigation, in cooperation with the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office resulted in the arrest.
