NYSSA – The Nyssa Police Department responded to a frantic 911 call from an elderly Nyssa resident this past week. According to information released by Nyssa Police Chief Rau, the caller believed that “48-year-old convicted felon Manuel Perez was back her residence beating on her doors and windows scaring her and wouldn’t leave.” The department had received two previous reports of Perez trespassing at this residence, but he would run and hide before officers could arrive.
Chief Rau says that Perez was “located by an officer on the street outside the residence and refused to comply when told he was under arrest. A Taser was deployed which incapacitated Perez facedown in the snow and he was handcuffed and picked up and placed into a patrol vehicle.”
Perez had outstanding felony warrants for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm where he allegedly brandished and fired off a handgun earlier in the week in Nyssa but had also ran and hid before officers arrived.
Perez was transported to the Malheur County Jail where he was lodged on the two Felony warrants and recommended charges of Criminal Trespass x3, Menacing x3, Felon in Possession of a Weapon x2 and Resisting Arrest.
