Man arrested on firearm, theft, endangering & other charges

JOHN DAY – (Press Release issued by Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley)

On the afternoon of May 25 th near 1:00 pm, Christopher Ryan Hoppe of Lower Yard Road in John Day called the Grant County Emergency Communication Center via 911 and reported that unknown persons were surrounding the garage he was in.
Hoppe reportedly fired on the alleged intruders with a high-powered rifle prior to Law
Enforcement arriving on scene.

It was determined that there were no intruders, and that the only armed person on scene was Mr.
Hoppe.

Christopher Hoppe was arrested and charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm,
Reckless Endangering, Theft I and Criminal Mischief. He was also held on a Probation Violation
detainer.

The use of narcotics are a suspected factor in this incident. No one was reportedly injured by the
gunfire.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police.
