Man arrested for burglary, assault and more

JOHN DAY – Multiple agencies including the John Day Police Department, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and John Day Ambulance all responded to an assault on Saturday afternoon, at an apartment on SW 1st St. in John Day. John Day Police Chief Mike Durr said the suspect had an apparent dispute with a male living at the residence and drove a vehicle across the sidewalk and onto the lawn of the property, then entered the residence. John Day Police arrived shortly thereafter.

As a result, Leo Baker Buzzard III, 56, of Mt Vernon was arrested for Burglary I, Assault IV, Strangulation and Menacing. There’s no word on the current condition of the victim. Chief Durr stated that he was able to respond to the scene within a minute of the call coming in. He said that likely wouldn’t happen without the John Day Police Department in operation. The Chief would like to remind folks about the John Day Town Hall tomorrow evening, 6:30 p.m., at the Grant County Fairgrounds regarding the local police option levy.
