WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department reports that officers were dispatched to the scene of a report that a vehicle crashed into other vehicles and then rammed the rear of a home near Stevens and Bernard streets. The suspect fled on foot. The call came in a little after midnight Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses told officers the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the home had intentionally rammed a vehicle near Stevens and Tietan streets, then took off at an estimated 80 miles per hour, lost control of his vehicle, crashed through a fence, and slammed into the home.

Public Information Officer Gunner Fulmer reports that a sergeant at the scene found a phone that was left behind that contained the suspect’s picture on its locked screen. The suspect was walking past the scene when the officer recognized him. When police approached, the suspect attempted to hide on the front porch of a residence on Chapra Street.

Fulmer said Jesus Rios, 34, of Walla Walla was uncooperative when he was taken into custody. He is facing charges for two counts of vehicular assault, reckless driving, hit and run driving while his license was suspended in the third degree. Rios also had two outstanding arrest warrants. No injuries were reported.
