JOHN DAY – Accurate witness statements warranted Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies to arrest an individual in a domestic violence incident in John Day yesterday, according to Sheriff Todd McKinley. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 2nd, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to what the emergency communications center listed as a “WALKING DOMESTIC” incident near W Main and Canton Streets in John Day. Sheriff McKinley gave a few details surrounding the arrest:
“Yesterday, downtown, we had some excellent calls coming in on an incident right in the middle of town. [A] domestic going down the sidewalk. [It was] reported that the male was going to throw the female off of the bridge into Canyon Creek. We had good witness statements, good people seeing, good calls—that’s what gets us there and helps us get our response and actually take care of it in the end.”
As a result, Spencer E Leifheit III, 45, of Mt. Vernon was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Strangulation and Harassment. Nothing further was released.
