JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY, and HINES(Released by U.S. Forest Service)-All Malheur National Forest offices will be closed Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Please plan accordingly for any of your Malheur National Forest needs.

Labor Day acknowledges the American labor movement and the unions that were the driving force of that movement, both of which contributed to the development, productivity and well-being of our country. It is the recognition of workers.

For many Americans, Labor Day weekend is also a last, quick getaway as summer ends and the school year begins. At the Forest Service, it can mean high numbers of national forest and grassland visitors. Here are a few things to prepare for your weekend:

1.      Know before you go: check the local forests conditions and public use restrictions.

2.     Recreate Responsibly

3.     Leave no trace: pack out what you pack in.
