JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY, and HINES(Released from Malheur National Forest office)— With increasing temperatures and lower fuel moisture, all Malheur National Forest Districts moved from Moderate to High Fire Danger Rating. The High Fire Danger Rating was effective 12:01am, Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
When the fire danger is “high“, fires can start easily from most causes and small fuels (such as grasses and needles) will ignite readily. Unattended campfires and brush fires are likely to escape. Fires will spread easily, with some areas of high intensity burning on slopes or concentrated fuels.
Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will remain at level I and Public Use Restrictions (PURs) will remain in Phase A.
To report a wildfire call John Day Interagency Dispatch at 541-575-1321 or Burns Interagency Dispatch at 541-573-1000.
