Malheur National Forest moves into seasonal use restrictions

JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY AND HINES (Released by the U.S. Forest Service)-With cooler and wet conditions, effective Monday, October 21, 2024, the Malheur National Forest will move to seasonal use restrictions for all districts on the Malheur National Forest. The Fire Danger Level will remain moderate.

When fire danger is “moderate” it means that fires can start from most accidental causes. If a fire does start in an open, dry grassland, it will burn and spread quickly on windy days. Most wood fires will spread slowly to moderately. Average fire intensity will be moderate except in heavy concentrations of fuel, which may burn hot. Fires are still not likely to become serious and are often easy to control.

Please check the local fire danger and public use restrictions on the National Forest you are visiting. Remember to recreate responsibly and know before you go.
