Malheur County Sheriff’s Office says, “Detours are put in place for a reason.”

VALE — The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office has issued a precautionary message to the public around road closures and detours during an emergency. Sheriff’s Office personnel urge travelers to only use official posted detours, and avoid other alternate routes that may not be safe for travel.

When a roadway is closed, detours are put in place for a reason. They’re the safest and most reliable way to get you where you are going.
We are aware there are plenty of backroads and alternate routes throughout Malheur County; however, choosing one you’re not familiar with can you leave you stranded, stuck and possibly without resources and cell phone service.
Multiple fires are burning across Malheur County and conditions can change quickly. Your safety is important to us.
