Making it easier to return library books

BAKER CITY – Starting Tuesday, Aug 17, the drive-up window at the Baker County Public Library will be closed for maintenance for about a week for an upgrade of the book return insert to a new stainless-steel, weather-resistant, and “touchless” unit.
With the protruding extension, the new unit will make returning items a bit easier to reach from a vehicle. Patrons will be able to return items just by pushing them through the faceplate, which reduces contact with a “high-touch surface”. The unit will also prevent water damage to materials already in the drop bin since the “weather-resistant” hood will help keep rainwater from coming through during storms.
This project is primarily funded from federal grant through the CARES Act for pandemic safety measures.
