LA GRANDE — (Release from the City of La Grande) The City of La Grande is pleased to announce the appointment of Lt. Jason Hays as the next Police Chief for the City of La Grande, effective February 20, 2026.
Lt. Hays was selected following a comprehensive recruitment and evaluation process that included interviews, stakeholder input, and careful consideration of the City’s current and future public safety needs. His selection reflects his demonstrated leadership, operational experience, and commitment to serving the La Grande community.
“Jason Hays has shown a strong dedication to public service, professional integrity, and thoughtful leadership,” said John H. O’Brien, City Manager. “We are confident that he will lead the Police Department with accountability, collaboration, and a continued focus on community trust and public safety.”
The City extends its appreciation to the members of the interview panels and staff who participated in the selection process. Their time, insight, and commitment were instrumental in ensuring a thorough and deliberate review.
Lt. Hays will be formally sworn in during the March 4, 2026 City Council meeting. The community is encouraged so attend as a show of support for this major milestone in serving our community.
