Louis Dix accepts position as Grant School Dist. #3 Superintendent

Grant School District #3 will have a new superintendent come July 1st. Following the retirement of Superintendent Brett Uptmor, Louis Dix will take the helm. Find the release from the school board below:

The Grant School District #3 Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mr. Louis Dix has accepted the position as Superintendent, effective July 1, 2022, upon the retirement of current Superintendent Mr. Bret Uptmor .

“The Board greatly appreciates and gives special thanks to students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members for their participation during the search process,” said Board Chair Haley Walker. “The survey results, community stakeholder interview results, as well as comments received in both were extremely valuable and helped lead the Board to the decision to hire Mr. Dix.”

Mr. Dix comes to Grant School District #3 from Roosevelt Elementary and Ponderosa Middle School both in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he has served as an administrator for both schools . He is a distinguished educational leader who started his career in Sweet Home, Oregon where he taught grades five, a fix/six blend, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade as well as high school summer school language arts classes. His first administrative position was in the La Grande School District. After two years he returned to the Sweet Home School District as the Middle School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. In 2007 he was recruited to the Medford School District and received the Assistant Principal position at North Medford High School where he served for three year s. In 2010 Mr. Dix was asked to lead Ruch School as the Principal, also in the Medford School District. The following year he was selected as the Principal at Griffin Creek Elementary School where they had the highest state testing trend data within the entire Medford School district his last three years at the helm.

Mr. Dix has a track record of being a champion . He is an Oregon High School State Wrestling Champion where he received a full wrestling athletic scholarship to Portland State University . While attending PSU he helped their wrestling team win a National Championship . Mr. Dix carried this through as a coach while in Sweet Home winning multiple district championships, two State Wrestling Championships, and winning OSAA coaches of the year. He also developed the soccer program in Sweet Home with a team of over 50 boys where they had the highest GPA of all boys’ soccer teams in the State of Oregon for two consecutive years.“

He is a leader in education in Oregon with a history of developing an atmosphere where students and staff want to be, implementing programs and practices to provide students and staff opportunities, and improving academic achievement . All of this and more made him the clear choice for our next superintendent,” says Walker. “He understands leadership and we are looking forward to the positive energy and direction he brings to GSD#3.”

Grant School District #3 began its superintendent search five months ago by hiring a consultant, COSA (Coalition of Oregon School Administrators), who engaged in an extensive community input process including all stakeholders. The consultant conducted a nationwide advertisement, initial applicant interviews and reference checks, and extensive background checks . The School Board reviewed all applicants and a slate of candidates was presented to the Board. The School Board conducted a first – round of interviews, additional reference checks, and final interviews before selecting Mr. Dix.
