Long Creek woman perishes in house fire

LONG CREEK, OR – (Release from Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer)

On the morning of August 4, 2020, at about 4:53 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire at 57485 Carter Lane near Long Creek, Oregon.

Long Creek Fire and Long Creek Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival it was discovered that the mobile home type structure of Susan Carter, 72,  was fully involved in fire.

The Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene as did the Oregon State Fire Marshall’s Office.

During a subsequent investigation it was learned that Carter had went to the Pendleton area late last week and returned home on Saturday. At this time it was presumed that Carter had perished in the fire. Members of the State Fire Marshall’s Office and an Arson Investigator with the Oregon State Police began an investigation into the cause of the fire when Carter was located in the burned out home.

The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Team as well as the Grant County Major Crimes Team was activated where the investigation into this case is still pending.
