LONG CREEK – North Fork John Day Watershed Council Executive Director Kristen Walz was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Monday morning, and mentioned that the council have partnered with Long Creek School to produce some of the hard-to-acquire native plants that are used on local restoration projects:
“We’ve got a greenhouse, so we are going to start growing native plants to plant in our restoration projects, but also to distribute to landowners, so they will have an easier time getting ahold of these native plants; these harder-to-obtain plants.
We’ve got that going. Our greenhouses are actually being constructed as we speak.”
Walz said if all goes well, Long Creek students will help in the gathering of native plants and seeds, as well as being an instrumental part in the cultivation and maintenance of the plants.
