Local youth and families are invited to get outdoors and take a bike ride

BAKER CITY – Biking is a great way to get outdoors and get some exercise in the process.  The Trailhead in Baker City along wit the Baker 5J School District have teamed up to bring the community “Bike for the health of it.”

Chelsea Judy with Anthony Lakes was able to share some details of this event with Elkhorn Media Group staff.

(Q)  Chelsea what is the event all about?

(A) The “Bike for the health of it” program was created to provide the opportunity for local youth and their families to get outside together and become familiar, or more familiar, with the lifelong sport of riding bikes.

In partnership with the Baker 5J School District, The Trailhead in Baker City is putting on the event Sunday, June 13th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Central Park in Baker City.

We wanted to create an event that was accessible for anyone to attend. So, we chose to have the event at Central Park in Baker City. The location is a great centralized spot along the Leo Adler Pathway and within walking, and biking distance for most city residents.

(Q) Is there any cost?

(A) This event is totally free, and you don’t even need a bike to attend.  The Baker School District was able to purchase an assortment of bikes and helmets from the Mountain Works in La Grande. So, there will be plenty of bikes available to borrow for the event.

Again, the event is totally free and includes guided rides for beginners to those looking for a little more of an adventure.  We will have a mechanic on site to host Bike Maintenance 101.  And the Baker City Police Department will be there to register your bike, if it Isn’t already registered with the city.

And we can’t forget that we will also have free hot dogs.

This is going to be an awesome event for families in Baker City. We encourage everyone to stop by and check it out.

The event will have two sessions one at 11:30 and another at 1 p.m.

The Trailhead is really excited for this partnership with the Baker School District and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. June 13th.
