COLLEGE PLACE – The city of College Place is still awaiting vital permits before the renovation project at Lions Park can begin.

City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello said the city cannot bid the construction project until permits from the Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, plus the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are issued. Rizzitiello said all three permits are under review, but when they’ll be issued is still unknown.

Construction of the renovation project is expected to kick off later this summer and continue through next spring. Anticipated improvements include a splash pad, walking path, separating the pond from the creek, a disabled accessible playground, new restrooms, plus restoration and development of multi-use fields (soccer and baseball).
