PRAIRIE CITY – UPDATE: (Information from the Malheur National Forest)
As a result from the lightning that moved through the area, there is an incident visible from Prairie City and John Day.
Graham Mountain: estimated at 5 acres. Burning in timber, slash and heavy dead and down fuels. There are resources on scene with additional resources hiking in and in route to assist, including a helicopter. Aerial recon is scheduled for 10:00 am this morning to look for any additional starts.
PREVIOUSLY RELEASED: Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush has updated our newsroom on the wildfire burning in the Graham Creek area south of Prairie City. The fire was last updated at 1-2 acres in size and is slow-growing, according to Bush. Firefighting resources from the Prairie City Rural Fire Department and the US Forest Service are responding.
PREVIOUSLY RELEASED: Passing thunderstorms have sparked multiple wildfires in Grant County. Tuesday evening, the Prairie City Rural Fire Department responded to a forest fire in the Dads Creek area. Acreage and containment information have not been listed.
At approximately 3:36 this morning, resources were dispatched to the Graham Creek area in or near the Strawberry Wilderness. You can see that one burning from Prairie City if you look south. So far, no further information has been listed and no evacuation notices have been issued. Stay tuned, updates will be provided as soon as further details come in.
