LA GRANDE – La Grande School District Superintendent George Mendoza announced that the district’s old maintenance building at La Grande High School will be open to the public on Friday, July 7.
Below is the letter Mendoza sent out to the public, outlining guidelines and warnings:
Dear Staff & Members of the General Public:
The old Maintenance Building will be opened for personal salvage on Friday, July 7, 2023. All staff and members of the general public age 18 and older are welcome to visit the building to remove items of interest. If you are interested, please abide by the following guidelines and warnings:
• The building contains asbestos and lead paint covered materials that may be disturbed during salvage. All individuals entering the building do so at their own risk.
• Individuals entering the building will be required to complete and sign a “Release, Waiver, and Indemnity Agreement” that basically says you are removing items at your own risk and the district is not liable for injuries or exposure to hazardous materials. Form to be submitted to Brad Sunderman prior to entry of the Maintenance Building
• No one under the age of 18 will be allowed in the building.
• Power and water will be disconnected, so you must bring your own power source for power tools, if you plan to use any.
• You must provide your own tools and personal protective equipment.
• No structural members may be removed, including bricks.
• No removal of carpet, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, drywall, or roofing material.
• The building will be open for salvage the following hours: Friday, July 7, 2023 from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM
