LGSD Wildcat Center officially opens September 25, with student access expected even earlier

LA GRANDE – Roughly 15 and a half months since the groundbreaking, the La Grande School District’s Wildcat Center will have its official grand Opening on Wednesday, September 25. When completed, the multi-use center will feature six classrooms, dividers, softball and baseball practice areas, and multiple pickleball courts, providing state-of-the-art academic and athletic facilities for students. Options for the public to rent out spaces are likewise being considered.

Students will also get the opportunity to access the Wildcat Center early. According to LGSD superintendent George Mendoza, The Wildcat Center will open to temporary student occupancy either August 21 or 22, just after the school year kicks off. Keep in mind that, while students will be using parts of the building, this is not a full opening of the facility. The Center’s elevator won’t arrive until mid-September and will take 1-2 weeks to install. HVAC installation and other finishing work is also still ongoing.

The LGSD community can look forward to The Wildcat Center’s full opening next month. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony slated for 5:30 p.m. that evening. The public is invited, with the LGSD expecting a big turnout. As commented by Mendoza:

“We definitely want as many people as possible in La Grande, or whoever is out there in Union County, to come and check out the school. We’ll open it up from about five to seven, and we want folks to see this beautiful location!”
