LA GRANDE – La Grande Police Department Officer Damien Hernandez is the most recent graduate for the department as the Oregon Basic Police Academy. A ceremony was held recently at the academy located in Salem. This is a 16-week training program the helps develop basic skills in all the disciplines needed for performing patrol work. The training involves classroom, skills and scenario-based training. Besides attending the Police Academy, each LGPD recruit must also complete a 3-to-4-month Field Training Program (On-the-job training) before they can work patrol in a solo status. We are very proud of Officer Hernandez and congratulate him for this accomplishment.
