Levy: Oregon takes action to protect evacuated property owners

SALEM – Oregon State Rep. Bobby Levy (R-Echo) says the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation (ODFR) has issued an emergency order to provide temporary protections for homeowners, renters, and businesses in areas under evacuation notices due to wildfires.
The order requires property and casualty insurance companies to suspend policy cancellations and non-renewals in designated wildfire-affected areas. It also provides a grace period for premium payments and extends deadlines for reporting insurance claims and submitting claim-related information. The order also ensures that policyholders have accessible ways to report claims during the emergency.
ODFR says the protections apply to policyholders in areas covered by wildfire evacuation notices. Their intention is to provide peace of mind while families focus on safety and recovery.
“If you or someone you know has questions about insurance coverage or needs assistance navigating the claims process, the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation encourages residents to reach out directly,” Levy wrote in her weekly newsletter.
