Law enforcement responds to kidnapping report at La Grande hotel

LA GRANDE UPDATE 12:40 P.M. – (From La Grande Police Chief Jason Hays)

On April 17, 2026, at approximately 9:33 a.m., officers responded to a report from a guest at the Hampton Inn in La Grande who stated they had been restrained, kidnapped, and assaulted. The caller also reported that the suspects were still inside a room on the fourth floor of the hotel.  Officers from the La Grande Police Department, along with assisting deputies and state troopers, responded immediately to the scene. The reporting party was located at the hotel and transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

During the response, additional witnesses arrived at the La Grande Police Department and provided information related to the incident. Investigators were able to identify all individuals involved, and interviews were conducted and search warrants are forthcoming. A multi-agency tactical team cleared the hotel room believed to be involved and confirmed it was unoccupied. The hotel was determined to be safe.

Hotel staff were cooperative throughout the investigation and provided security camera footage to assist investigators.  This remains an active investigation. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office has issued a notice of a large police presence at the Hampton Inn in La Grande, 2830 Mulholland Dr. Residents are asked to avoid the area until further notice. No additional information is avalible at this time.
