CONNELL – Lamb Weston announced Tuesday the permanent closure of its potato processing plant in Connell, the temporary curtailment of certain production lines and schedules in its manufacturing network and elimination of some jobs in other locations.
“A supply and demand imbalance in North America and an inflationary environment necessitate these difficult steps,” Lamb Weston CEO Tom Werner said.
The Connell plant currently employs about 375 people. Products made there included a variety of fries and other frozen potato products. Production ended Monday and plant shut down work has begun.
Employees are encouraged to and supported in applying for positions at other Lamb Weston locations.
In addition to the Connell closure, Lamb Weston announced plans to eliminate about four percent of its global workforce of about 10,700 employees and cancelling any unfilled new jobs.
