LA GRANDE – While winter on the West Coast has been mild, heavy winter conditions across the rest of the country have put a strain on the national blood supply. For anyone looking to step up and donate blood, the next La Grande Community Blood Draw is coming up March 17 and 18. As commented by Linda and Sheldon Strand (La Grande’s Community Blood Draw Coordinators) in a recent announcement:
“We anticipate the community will support us with another good turn-out. The January draw resulted in a blood collection of something over 300 units. A very good number for our community, but the shortage of blood is acute.”
The draw will run from noon to 6 p.m. March 17 and 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. March 18 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in La Grande, on the corner of 12th street & Gekeler Lane. Appointments can be registered for online at http://redcrossblood.org/ or by contacting Linda Strand at 541-910-1973.
For anyone in Baker County looking to donate blood, a local blood drive is also scheduled for Monday, March 23 (noon to 6:00 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 24 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) at the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane, Baker City.
