LA GRANDE – The first La Grande Red Cross Blood Draw of the year has come and gone. Linda and Sheldon Strand, La Grande’s Community Blood Draw coordinators, report that a record 281 units of blood were brought in during January 12 and 13. With the national blood shortage ongoing and the California wildfires continuing to cause disruptions, every donation counts. As written by the Strands in a recent announcement:

“It is notable that members of our small community in northeast Oregon, a place most people in the USA could not identify on a map, can come together in the common cause of reducing the severe shortage of blood in the country.”

For those that missed the recent drive or would like to donate again, the next blood draws for La Grande are scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 (Noon to 6:00 p.m.), and Wednesday, March 19 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). Like always, the draws will be hosted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1802 Gekeler Lane, La Grande.

For Baker City residents, the next draws are scheduled for Monday, March 24 (Noon to 6:00 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 25 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). The draws will be hosted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane, Baker City.
