LA GRANDE – La Grande police officers recently responded to complaints of a transient camp located behind Safeway and related complaints of trespassing. According to LGPD Lieutenant Jason Hays, responding officers encountered two transient individuals at the camp who attempted to hide from the officers. One of the individuals, identified as Cory Hamilton, was also found to be in possession of illegal drugs in violation of his parole.
Officers then attempted to arrest Hamilton for Parole Violation. Hamilton attempted to get away and continued to resist until he was safely placed in handcuffs. He subsequently cooperated with police after being placed in custody. Hamilton was then transported to the Union County Jail and charged with Probation Violation, Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Police Officer. Both Hamilton and the LGPD officers received minor scratches during the altercation.
