La Grande School District celebrates opening of the New Wildcat Center

LA GRANDE – (Release from the La Grande School District) La Grande School District invites the community to the Grand Opening of the Wildcat Center on Wednesday, September 25th at 5:00 PM. The new facility is located at La Grande Middle School. Tours of the facility and grounds will be available and the official ribbon cutting will be at 5:45 PM.
The Wildcat Center is a new, multi-purpose academic and athletic center that replaced the Annex and maintenance building previously on the site. It has:
· Six classrooms
· Three gyms (for P.E. & multiple sports)
· Large team room
· Two locker rooms
· Community use
The facility was built with funding from the school district’s General Obligation bond passed by voters in May 2022 and a state grant from the OSCIM (Oregon School Capital Improvement Matching) program. The groundbreaking for the Wildcat Center was in June 2023.
Superintendent George Mendoza said he and the district are excited to celebrate this accomplishment. “The completion of the Wildcat Center marks a significant milestone in the community’s commitment to enhancing educational facilities for their students. This multi-purpose space will not only enhance our educational programs but also serve as a hub for community activities,” Mendoza said.
