LA GRANDE – The City of La Grande Parks and Recreation Department not only takes care of La Grande’s trees but also catalogs most of them. Residents that would like to know just what kind of tree is on their street can visit the City of La Grande Public Tree Inventory. Information includes species name (common and scientific), diameter breast height, canopy width and canopy cover as described by the Parks Department:
“The City of La Grande’s public tree inventory helps guide the management and care of our community forest. There are approximately 5,500 trees in the public tree inventory. This includes all street trees counted in 2018, all park trees counted in 2021 and all public trees that have been planted or inventoried since that time. Maintaining the City inventory is an ongoing project and the database is updated as old trees are removed and new trees are planted.”
