LA GRANDE – As a reminder to La Grande residents, La Grande Public Works is continuing its annual hydrant testing and maintenance program. These tests are conducted every year to help drain the city’s water system of built-up sedimentation and identify the volume of water available for firefighting. Public Works told Elkhorn Media Group that they are approximately halfway finished with hydrant flushing. As such, some residents may continue to experience a slight discoloration and odor to their water. City water is still being treated, however, and is still potable.
For those who experience discolored water, Public Works offers the following recommendations:
“Citizens who experience any unusual water clarity problems during the hydrant flushing are encouraged to turn on a cold-water faucet outside of the house (if possible) and let it run for 10 to 15 minutes. This will normally clear up the agitated water from the service line to the home. Further problems may be referred to the La Grande Public Works Department by calling 541-962-1325.”
Hydrant testing takes place Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
