LA GRANDE – While most traffic accidents happen at speed, be it on highways or local roads, parking lots can occasionally play host to periodic crashes. Earlier this week, the La Grande Police Department responded to a pair of accidental accelerations into buildings (with expected results), one of which resulted in an injury.

Police responded to the first crash around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 22nd. The initial call reported a vehicle had smashed into a building at 611 12th street and that a man was stuck between the vehicle and the building. Police arrived and were able to quickly free the man, who was taken to Grande Ronde Hospital for treatment. According to police, the man was working on his pickup and asked a female that was with him to start the vehicle. As the vehicle was in gear, it lurched forward when started and pinned the man against the building.

The LGPD responded to the second crash at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23. A vehicle had reportedly crashed into a building at the Rodeway Inn, 402 Adams Ave, La Grande, though it was determined to be a minor accident. According to police, a male driver was pulling into a parking space when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator. The vehicle then jumped the curb and hit the building. No injuries were reported and minor damage was caused to both the vehicle and building.
