LA GRANDE โ Cheynne Maszk, boys High School Swimming Coach for La Grande School District has officially been selected by the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) as Oregonโs nominee for the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) 2024-25 coach of the year award for Boys Swimming. In an official announcement to Maszk (shared with Elkhorn Media Group by La Grande SD), the OACA wrote:
โOn behalf of the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA), we would like to congratulate you on being selected as the Oregon nominee for the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) 2024-25 โCoach of the Yearโ award for Boys Swimming.
Each year the OACA selects one coach from each of the 10 boys and 10 girls sports offered in our state. Each state award winner then becomes eligible for Section 8 awards competing against coaches in their respective sports from Washington, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Wyoming. Section 8 winners then compete for National Coach of the Year against representatives from the other 7 sections of the United States. Oregon has been very well represented, winning numerous Sectional and National Awards over the past 20 years.
The following criteria was used in the selection process: โNominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character, and must carry the endorsement of their respective state high school association. They are not only successful in their respective sports but also serve as positive contributors to their schools and communities. Longevity in coaching is also an important consideration.โโ
In an email correspondence to the district, Maszk remarked, โI am shocked and thrilled at the nomination. It is such an honor to accept.โ
