La Grande Firefighters get into the Seasonal Spirit with Giant Pumpkins

LA GRANDE – No one ever said being a firefighter meant you couldn’t have a green thumb. If anything, La Grande’s firefighters may have a promising career in farming should they ever get bored with their current job. The Fire Department recently concluded their third annual pumpkin growing contest, and needless to say the competition was fierce this year. Nine firefighters entered this great gardening game and six crossed the finish line, producing the mammoth pumpkins you see pictured above. The final placement of participants, as posted by the La Grande Fire Department, are as follows:
- Captain Alam- 211 lbs
- Captain Ployhar- 151.5
- FF Berthelsen- 93.45
- FF Petty- 81.5
- FF Wattenburg- 61.85
- Deputy Chief Laci- 18.15
- FF Blackwell- Honorable Mention with the cutest pumpkin
