LA GRANDE – (Release from the La Grande Fire Department) Beginning July 1, 2024, the La Grande Fire Department will be performing fire inspections conducted by on-duty La Grande Fire Department firefighters. This will be aimed at reducing fire hazards and property loss resulting from fires. In addition to reducing fire hazards, another benefit of the program is that it will increase firefighter knowledge of existing structures. If a business has an emergency incident, crews will be better equipped to handle the emergency by having knowledge of entrances, exits, utilities and other fire and life safety features.
Fire inspections performed by La Grande Fire Department firefighters will include business and mercantile occupancies as well as apartment buildings in the city limits of La Grande. They will begin contacting businesses in late June to schedule inspections in July. A self- inspection checklist is available on the City of La Grande website https://www.cityoflagrande.org and also on the City of La Grande Fire Departments Facebook page. This checklist can be referred to and used to prepare for your upcoming inspection.
Some general fire safety items that are noted during a fire safety inspection, which apply to all occupancies, are:
After the initial inspection, businesses will have time to make corrections (usually 30 days but may be longer). Once the 30-days has passed firefighters will return for a re-inspection. Inspection reports are electronically recorded and will be emailed to the business or apartment owner/manager.
