LA GRANDE — A La Grande man was arrested on multiple charges Monday night after police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on 2nd Street.

Nathan Russell Osterloh, 38, was taken into custody following a call from a concerned citizen reporting a possible assault at 9:43 p.m. on August 13. La Grande Police officers arrived on the scene within moments and made contact with a woman who had been involved in the disturbance.

The woman, who stated she was in a relationship with Osterloh, told officers she had been attempting to break up with him due to his abusive behavior. According to the woman, Osterloh became violent when she attempted to end the relationship, attacking her and causing multiple minor injuries. She reported that when she tried to contact the police, Osterloh pinned her down and covered her mouth with his hand to prevent her from making the call. She expressed that she feared for her life during the assault.

Officers located Osterloh in a separate bedroom within the residence. He was uncooperative and threatened to kill the arresting officers. During the arrest, Osterloh was found to be in possession of brass knuckles, a weapon he is prohibited from having due to his status as a convicted felon.

Osterloh was arrested on charges including coercion, menacing, second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), second-degree disorderly conduct, interfering with making a report, and failure to register as a sex offender.

He was booked into the Union County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing.
