LA GRANDE โ€“ (Release from the Center for Human Development) In response to recent tragedies affecting the community, local partners are coming together to host a Community Wellness Event focused on mental health awareness, wellness education, and access to support resources. The free, public event will take place Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 N Albany Street, La Grande.

The event is hosted collaboratively by the Center for Human Development, Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Lines for Life. It is open to all community members, including families, youth, individuals, educators, service providers, and community partners.

โ€œAfter a difficult season in our community, we wanted to create space for healing, connection, and practical support,โ€ said Daisy Duren, Head of Clinical Operations for the Center for Human Development. โ€œI reached out to the Oregon Health Authorityโ€™s postvention team to explore how we could offer meaningful resources to our community. This event is one way we can continue to reduce stigma around mental health and encourage people to seek help when they need it.โ€

The evening will feature a special presentation by Justin Thomas, LPC, a counselor and behavioral health trainer with more than 15 years of experience in mental health, substance use treatment, and crisis response. Thomas previously managed crisis services in Linn County and now serves as lead trainer and content creator for the Mobile Crisis Training Academy in Oregon. He is also the founder of FundaMental Consulting, LLC, where he provides training and education across the state.

Thomasโ€™ presentation will focus on:

  • Practical tools and strategies for personal wellness
  • Recognizing signs of emotional or mental health struggle
  • Effective ways to respond and connect individuals to appropriate support
  • Building resilience and community understanding around mental health

Additional components of the event will include opportunities to learn about local and statewide wellness resources, community connection, and light food and refreshments.

โ€œOur goal is to strengthen awareness, improve access to support, and remind people they are not alone,โ€ said event partners. โ€œMental health affects everyone, and this event provides a welcoming space to learn, connect, and take positive steps toward wellness.โ€

There is no cost to attend, and registration is not required.Event Details:
