LA GRANDE – Following a holiday hiatus, the La Grande Community Blood Draw resumes January 16th and 17th. With the national blood shortage still ongoing, any members of the community able to donate blood are encouraged to do so. To emphasize the need for donations, Linda and Sheldon Strand, La Grande’s community blood draw coordinators, shared the following message from one of their volunteers. For context, this volunteer’s granddaughter has suffered from Leukemia for the past 2 years:
“Her hemoglobin levels are dropping to the point she needs a transfusion, but she still has energy, and she is doing OK, so her doctor says she most likely won’t get a transfusion at this time.”
The upcoming blood draws will be held back-to-back on January 16th and 17, both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1802 Gekeler Lane, La Grande. The January 16th draw will last from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that evening and the January 17th draw will last from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that afternoon. The full 2024 schedule for La Grande community blood draws is as follows:
