LA GRANDE & ISLAND CITY – Local emergency services certainly stayed busy throughout 2025. Earlier this month, the La Grande Fire Department reported that its crews responded to 3,446 calls for service last year, an average of around 287 calls per month.
For reference, calls for service (at least as classified by La Grande) refer to medical calls, fire/MCV calls, and lift assists. The LGFD, at least according to La Grande’s monthly city manager reports, also lists “EOU Football” as a unique call for service category.
The La Grande Rural Fire Protection District, located in Island City, also reported this month that its crews responded to 245 calls in 2025.
For non-fire dispatch calls, the La Grande Police Department (again according to the December 2025 city manager report) received 11,019 calls for service (835 priority 911 calls and 10,184 listed as “other calls”), along with 1,220 case numbers. The PD also reports conducting 1,781 traffic stops.
