KENNEWICK – On Feb. 4, 2003, one day before her fifth birthday, Sofia Juarez was abducted as she walked westbound in the 100 block of East 15th Avenue towards South Washington Street in Kennewick. The case remains active, and the police department has established a website dedicated to finding Sophia, in the hope the public can help.
“Sofia’s mother went to her grave not knowing what happened to Sofia,” Public Information Officer Lt. Aaron Clem wrote. “Our community and the Kennewick Police Department continue to make finding Sofia a top priority.”
KPD states Sofia was a typical young girl who enjoyed cartoons, playing with Barbie dolls, and coloring.
“She was shy by nature, and not prone to wander off by herself,” the website states. “She was very excited about her coming birthday. Sofia was a beacon of sunshine who had a bright and innocent life stolen from her.”
The website contains a photo of what Sofia Juarez might look like today. It also gives people the opportunity to leave tips for the investigators into the case.
