KENNEWICK – The Kennewick Police Department is pressing charges after a alleged burglary and pursuit Saturday that saw two police vehicles and one civilian vehicle being rammed by those avoiding arrest. K-9 Officer Ivan took one of the suspects into custody when he fled on foot.

Jose Perez-Gonzales, 33, of Pasco is identified by police as the driver. His passenger was Shegow Gagow, 37, also of Pasco. Gagow is charged with suspicion of second-degree burglary. Gonzales was booked for second-degree burglary, third-degree assault for ramming the patrol car, attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.

According to KPD, Saturday afternoon officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress report in the 56000 block of West Metaline Avenue.  The reporting party was watching live video of two men using bolt cutters to cut locks to two storage units. Officers were told the men were associated with a white Mazda passenger vehicle. When officers arrived, that vehicle was leaving  with two men inside.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it stopped but then accelerated, ramming the back of a KPD patrol car while the officer was exiting, throwing the officer from the vehicle. Gonzales then fled at a high rat of speed, failing to stop at the intersection of Metaline and Edison, striking a KPD SUV. Additionally, Gonzales struck an occupied civilian vehicle while on State Route 240. The occupants were not injured. Gonzales came to a stop at 1114 W. 10th Ave., and fled on foot. Gagow remained in the vehicle and was arrested.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, and officers from Pasco and Richland arrived to set a containment area. K-9 Ivan led the officers to an apartment at 1026 W. 10th Ave. Gonzales fled through a window and ran away. Ivan located Gonzales hiding in a shed in a resident’s backyard and apprehended the suspect.
