KPD investigating fatal accident

KENNEWICK – The Kennewick Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on South Ely Street near West 31st Avenue Monday night. An investigation revealed Angel Mendoza, 25, of Kennewick lost control of his 2021 Mercedes Benz striking a 2010 Jeep Wrangler at 7:18 p.m. Mendoza died at the scene because of injuries sustained in the crash.
Mendoza was traveling southbound on Ely Street when he crossed into the northbound lanes striking the other vehicle. Two occupants in the Jeep Wrangler sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Both are expected to recover.
While the investigation is still ongoing, speed has been determined to be a significant factor in the fatality collision, according to the Kennewick Police Department.
