SALEM – Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson will be stepping down to become a judge for the Sixth Circuit Court soon. That means Morrow County needs a new district attorney. Gov. Tina Kotek announced the opening yesterday, which she plans on filling by appointment.
Applicants must submit a District Attorney Interest Form to the governor’s office. This is not the same form that is used for judicial vacancies. The District Attorney Interest Form is available here.
Those applying for the position should address their completed application forms to Richard A. Lane, General Counsel, Office of the Governor by email only. No mailed or hand-delivered applications will be accepted. Email them to meghan.rogers-czarnecki@oregon.gov by 5 p.m. Nov. 11.
Questions regarding the appointment process should also be directed to Rogers-Czarnecki at the above email address or by calling 503-378-6246.
Oregon law requires that, at the time of appointment, the appointee must be admitted to practice law in the Oregon Supreme Court.
Nelson will take over the courtroom duties in Pendleton of retiring Judge Rob Collins on Jan. 1, 2027.
