OLYMPIA – Communities in Washington will not be able to create small cafes and markets in their neighborhoods. This is because the state House of Representatives failed to bring House Bill 1175 up for a vote by last Wednesday’s deadline.

Rep. Mark Klicker (R-Walla Walla) introduced the bill to help strengthen community bonds and drive small business growth.

This was Klicker’s second attempt at introducing the idea in the legislature. A similar bill passed the House last year, but did not come to a vote in the Senate.

“I’ve heard from a lot of people from around our state who would love to have a coffee shop or market in their neighborhood, and I know they will be disappointed that the bill died again,” Klicker said. The 2025 legislative session concludes April 27.
