PORTLAND – Matthew and Jonathanpeter Klein are no longer being jailed on charges related to their participation at the U.S. Capitol in January. They are both charged with breaching the capitol and disrupting Congress.
Their attorneys both argued for their release, promising the brothers would be present at their trials. Matthew Klein had requested he be released into the custody of his parents in Baker City. The judge denied that request because the prosecution argued that the parents had counseled their sons to destroy their cell phones and avoid bragging about their time at the demonstration.
Instead, Matthew Klein is living with a couple in Baker City approved by the judge. He is also allowed limited use of the internet because he is a student at George Fox University. The hosts are a corrections officer and a former government employee.
Jonathanpeter Klein, who was arrested in Morrow County, is living with close family friends in Umatilla County.
