JOHN DAY – The Grant County Fair will have no shortage in entertainment this year! Sawyer Brown will hit the stage on Friday, August 9th around 8:30 p.m. Before that happens, though, the critically acclaimed country rock band The Cadillac Three will lay down one of their high-energy shows for eager Eastern Oregon fans.

TC3’s drummer and co-songwriter Neil Mason joined KJDY’s Coffee Time host Logan Bagett for a conversation about the band, their songwriting process, new material, and their show in John Day on August 9th.

Regarding their live show, Mason said it’ll be a great place for folks to come and leave their worries behind:

“We’re always looking to, kind of, just give people a release, you know? Kind of, like, forget about whatever it is that’s been going on all week. We’re trying to turn whatever room or field that we’re in into a party. It’s high-energy out of the gate, and it stays that way for however much time they give us.”

The Cadillac Three just released a song featuring BRELAND on the new Petty Country record, which features Tom Petty cover songs from a variety of country and country/rock acts. The song is Free Fallin’, and Neil Mason said being featured on the record was a “bucket list” item he got to check off:

“So, [our record label] came to us, and asked us if we wanted to do a tune. Of course, the answer was ‘yes’. We would’ve been real mad if we hadn’t been asked, to be honest [chuckles]. And then they said, ‘do you guys want to do the song Free Fallin’?’ And it’s like, ‘Well, it’s only his biggest song. So, I mean, I guess we do!’

…and that was really fun. It was a cool experience. We got to go in the studio and just spend a day playing Tom Petty. I honestly can’t think of anything much better than that. He is my absolute, all-time fave.

…I got my hands on a vinyl the other day, and I was very excited to see Tom’s name and our name on the back cover of the vinyl, it’s kind of some bucket list stuff, right there.”
