HERMISTON – Oregon State Police are investigating after two kittens were found abandoned and two others were found dead along U.S. Highway 730 on Monday.

According to an OSP report, a Hermiston man discovered the two surviving kittens just west of Umatilla. He also reported finding two other kittens that appeared to have been struck and killed by passing vehicles.

Fuzz Ball Animal Rescue out of Hermiston took possession of the surviving kittens and transported them to a local veterinarian. Fuzz Ball Director Robin Barker stated that while the kittens are recovering, one suffered facial injuries. Investigators believe those injuries are consistent with a kitten being thrown from a vehicle at a low speed.

“If you see something, please say something,” Barker said, noting there have been other incidents of animal abuse and abandonment in the past few weeks. She says any information helps authorities find those responsible including something as vague as a vehicle’s color.

There were no witnesses to the incident and OSP said as of Monday morning there were no suspects or updates to the investigation.

The kittens are expected to recover, and Fuzz Ball Animal Rescue is currently seeking foster homes for them and other animals in their care. Interested parties can find more information on their website.
