Kids get free lunch this summer

HERMISTON – For the 15th year, the city of Hermiston and the Oregon Department of Education are partnering to provide the Free Lunch at the Park program for those 18 and younger. The meals are offered every weekday and no paperwork is required.
“Our goal is to remove all barriers and make sure meals are getting to kids who need a good lunch,” Diana Picard, the program manager, said. “A big part of Hermiston Parks and Rec’s mission is to improve community health, and this program is a great way to do that when kids are out of school.”
The meals are offered at five locations. They are served from 11:30-11:45 a.m. at the Hermiston Family Aquatic Center and Sunset Park. From noon-12:15 p.m. lunch is available at Butte Park and Sunset Elementary School. At Victory Square Park meals are served between 12:30-12:45 p.m.
It was announced earlier that the Hermiston School District has qualified for free breakfasts and lunches for all K-12 students when the new school year begins. This is separate from that program.
